Fire at H-9 Itwar bazaar contained, more than 500 shops gutted

ISLAMABAD: Fire, which erupted at Itwar bazaar in sector H-9 on Wednesday morning has finally been contained and has gutted more than 500 shops. The process of cooling is now taking place.

Rescue services and five fire brigade vehicles of both CDA and fire department reached the site and douse the fire, which seems to be getting out of control. More fire brigade vehicles have been sought.

The firefighters of Pakistan Navy also reached the scene and started rescue work.

CDA Chairman and Commissioner Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner and other officers of administration also reached the spot and monitored the entire operation.

Black smoke can be seen emitting out of the site.

According to initial reports, the fire erupted in the garment and shoe section at the H-9 itwar bazaar which spread to other parts of the area swiftly.

According to CDA Chairman Ali Randhawa around 500 to 700 shops have been gutted and fire has been contained. He said 31 fire brigade vehicles took part in the operation.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the fire incident and instructed the federal capital administration to use all resources to douse the fire.

The number of rescue and fire brigade teams should be increased and steps should be taken to control the fire by deploying additional resources, Mohsin Naqvi directed.

Mohsin Naqvi called for a report from the Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad while ordering inquiry into the fire incident.
