PSX building fire contained, says fire brigade

KARACHI: The fire brigade has put out the fire that broke out in the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi on Monday morning.

According to latest reports, four vehicles of the fire brigade were used to extinguish the fire, which were later increased to six vehicles, including a bowser and a snorkel.

The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building above the trading hall, Rescue operations staff said.

Today is the first trading day of the bourse of the business week after a two-day holiday. There are no reports of any casualties due to the fire.

PSX CEO Farrukh Khan, speaking to media said that in total, activities in the stock market were suspended for two hours. “People from all over the world trade on PSX and the exchange could not be suspended any longer,” he said.

He added that the building was opened after discussions with the fire brigade authorities, while PSX team will investigate the matter thoroughly. “Security of other infrastructure including IT systems is the responsibility of the brokers,” Khan said.
