ISLAMABAD: The first solar eclipse of 2025 will take place today (Saturday), but it will not be visible from Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

In a statement, the PMD said the eclipse will begin at 1:51 PM (PST) and will reach its peak at 3:47 pm and end at 5:44 PM. However, it will only be observable in select regions, including Europe, West Africa, North America, and the Atlantic.

This marks the year’s first solar eclipse, drawing interest from astronomers and space enthusiasts worldwide.

The second solar eclipse of 2025 is scheduled for the night between September 21 and 22. Like the first, it will also be a partial eclipse.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, partially or fully blocking sunlight. The extent of coverage determines the type of eclipse seen.

Experts warn that looking directly at the Sun, even during a partial eclipse, can cause serious eye damage, including permanent blindness. To safely observe the event, specially designed solar viewing glasses should be used to block harmful ultraviolet rays and reduce brightness to safe levels.
