First spell of Monsoon rains begins across the country

ISLAMABAD: The first spell of monsoon rains has begun in most regions of the country and will continue until July 1, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast.
However, despite the rain the weather today will remain humid in several areas.
A strong westerly wave is expected to approach the northern regions on Wednesday and may gain significance by June 26, resulting in heavy rainfall activity across most provinces and territories.
Heavy rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in most districts of the Punjab province.
According to PMD, rainfall is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala. Rain is also likely in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.
In South Punjab, rain is forecast from June 26 to 28 in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar.
Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain on high alert. All relevant departments, including Rescue services and WASA, have also been directed to stay prepared.

According to DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia, this year’s monsoon rains are expected to be 25 per cent above normal. Alerts have been issued to the Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock departments.
MONSOON RAINS IN KARACHI
In Sindh, rainfall with wind and thunderstorms is expected in upper and southeastern districts including Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta and Badin from June 25 to June 28 with brief gaps.
Moist currents from the Arabian Sea have entered the region and are expected to intensify in the coming days.
Karachiites should brace for humid weather with chances of scattered rainfall, especially during the night and morning hours.
Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures during the adverse weather.
