LAHORE: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of possible flooding in the Sutlej River and adjoining streams as a fresh spell of monsoon rains is set to begin on August 13.
A PDMA spokesperson said the new weather system could raise water levels in the Sutlej, with a further increase likely if water is released from upstream reservoirs.
The fresh rain spell is expected to affect the upper parts of the country from next week.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia expressed concern over rising water levels at Ganda Singh, pointing out that Indian dams have recorded unusual increases in the recent days.
According to the statement, Indian dams on the eastern rivers are currently 56 per cent full.
Authorities, including IRSA and the Irrigation Department, are monitoring the situation round the clock. Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been put on alert, while Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed all relevant departments to stay prepared for any emergency.
Since the monsoon season began, rain-related incidents in Pakistan have injured 727 people, destroyed 563 houses, and killed 428 livestock.
In the last 24 hours alone, three more people sustained injuries in monsoon-related accidents.
