Flour Mills Association goes on strike against withholding tax

LAHORE: Pakistan Flour Mills Association in protest against the implementation of withholding tax on wheat has announced to close the flour mills for an indefinite period.
Leader of the Progressive Group, Majid Abdullah, stated that it is impossible to collect taxes through flour dealers and retailers. He said if you ask a dealer if he is a tax payer or a non-filer he refuses to buy.
He declared that they would close the flour mills for an indefinite period till their demands are met.

He said as part of the strike in the first phase the washing of wheat would be halted, followed by the complete shutdown of flour mills across Pakistan starting from July 11.
Abdullah emphasized that the grinding operations in flour mills will remain suspended until their demands are met.
He warned that the enforcement of the withholding tax would lead to rampant corruption within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
