ISLAMABAD: The persistent blanket of dense fog has extended its influence over multiple areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for the third consecutive night, causing significant disruptions to road travel on major routes in the twin cities.
Motorists grappled with challenging conditions as heavy fog significantly impacted visibility. Cars and bikes navigated cautiously, with many adopting slow speeds and activating hazard lights.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, police officials took proactive measures by removing barriers at select checkposts to enhance safety, recognizing the difficulty faced by motorists in identifying barriers amidst the dense fog.
As of 1 AM on Tuesday, various areas, including Gulistan Colony, Shah Residency, Ayub National Park Road, Defence Housing Authority Phase 3, Range Road, Joyland, Askari 1 and Askari 2, Gangal West, Ghauri Town, The Springs Apartment Homes, Khokhar Road, Habib Colony, Faisal Avenue, and Srinagar Highway, remained enveloped in fog.
The impact of the dense fog was not limited to residential areas alone, as key residential and commercial sectors in Islamabad also experienced reduced visibility, affecting the flow of traffic.
Furthermore, several motorways faced closures due to the foggy conditions. The motorway M1 Peshawar to Burhan was shut down for traffic, with a spokesperson citing the heavy fog as the primary reason for the closure.
Similarly, the motorways M1 Peshawar to Swabi and M2 Kot Momin to Islamabad were also closed for traffic due to the adverse weather conditions.
The Motorway M5, stretching from Sher Shah to Zahir Peer, and the Motorway M14, from Hakla to Kot Belian, were both closed to heavy traffic due to the persistent fog.
As commuters continue to grapple with these challenging conditions, authorities urge everyone on the roads to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and stay updated on the latest weather advisories to ensure a safe journey.
