Fog leads to road closure on motorways M-1, M-4, N-5


Motorway M-1, connecting Peshawar to Swabi, was closed due to dense fog, the National Highway and Motorway Police reported.

ISLAMABAD: Motorway M-1, connecting Peshawar to Swabi, was closed due to dense fog, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) reported in early hours of Saturday.

The closure is part of a broader advisory regarding hazardous driving conditions across several key routes in the region, primarily attributed to low visibility.

M-4 Motorway

Meanwhile, the M-4 motorway is also experiencing severe fog, with visibility ranging from 50 to 100 metres along the stretch of Pindibhatiya (KM 290) to Abdul Hakeem (KM 89).

The lane from Abdul Hakeem (KM 89) to Shorkot (KM 119) has also been closed for safety reasons. This will affect both, northbound and southbound traffic.

Similarly, the sub-sector of M-4 from Shamkot (KM 54) to Abdul Hakeem (KM 89) is closed for northbound traffic.

N-5 Highway

On the N-5 highway, linking Peshawar to Lahore, the North Zone is facing closures due to ongoing road work. The road is closed from Rahwali (KM 1340) to Gakhar City (KM 1347), also due to road work.

Meanwhile, in the Central Zone of N-5, spanning from Lahore to Sadiqabad, severe fog resulted in low visibility. It is currently ranging from 20 to 200 metres, particularly between Dina Nath (KM 1212) and Meer Dad Mafi (KM 1092).

As per the NHMP, visibility is fluctuating between 40 and 300 metres.

Swat Expressway

Visibility dropped to approximately 100 metres between Col Sher Khan and Chardara, Swat Expressway. Visibility is particularly low from Bakhsali (KM 27) to Rustad Road (KM 24).

Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution while driving in the area.

Travelers are advised to exercise caution while driving and adhere to traffic advisories. They are also urged to consider alternative routes where applicable.
