Former Governor Sindh Kamaluddin Azfar passes away

KARACHI: Former Sindh governor and senior PPP leader Kamaluddin Azfar passed away in Karachi on Monday at the age of 95. His family and party officials confirmed the news.
According to PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi, Azfar had been under treatment at Ziauddin Hospital, where he breathed his last. Funeral arrangements will be finalised once his children arrive from abroad, Mehdi added.
Azfar was a close confidant of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and had long been associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party.

He previously served as PPP Karachi president and earned the title of “son of Karachi” for his services to the city.
He played a key role in developing housing for low-income residents, particularly in the Lines Area. Azfar also served as a senator and later stepped down from the post when he was appointed Sindh governor in 1995 by then Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
PRESIDENT, PM CONDOLENCES
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the death of Kamaluddin Azfar.
In his condolence message, he extended heartfelt sympathies to Azfar’s family and lauded his political contributions, calling him a valuable asset to the PPP and a dedicated public servant.
The president prayed for the late leader’s elevation in the hereafter and strength for the family.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over Azfar’s passing.
In a statement, he said Pakistan had lost a wise and seasoned politician.
The premier conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and offered prayers for the departed soul.
