Former Naval Chief Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey passes away


WEB DESK: Former Naval Chief Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey has passed away in Islamabad, the Pakistan Navy spokesperson stated on Thursday,

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, expressed his condolences on the passing of Admiral Sirohey.

Admiral Sirohey was commissioned into the Pakistan Navy in 1955, and he participated in the wars of 1965 and 1971 against India. He served as the Chief of the Pakistan Navy from 1986 to 1988, and later served as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee from 1988 to 1991. He has been the only person apart from Admiral Mohammad Shariff to have held the position of CJCSC from Navy as it is often left for officials serving the Pakistan Army.

The Naval Chief paid tribute to the late admiral’s services for the Pakistan Navy.
