LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has issued directives to enhance security measures across the province with a particular focus on places of worship and key public locations.
IG Anwar said that security must be ensured at mosques, imambargahs, shrines, and other important venues, particularly on Fridays when congregations are larger. He directed all senior police officers, including District Police Officers (DPOs), to visit regional mosques and maintain a visible presence.

“Police officers should engage with the public and listen to their concerns after Friday prayers,” the IG Punjab said, while reiterating the importance of community-police interaction.
He added that, in accordance with Islamic values, mosques are being re-established as centers of community engagement. “The member and mihrab play a vital role in guiding society, ensuring peace, and delivering justice,” he said.
He added that mosques serve as pivotal institutions in the moral and social development of the community and should be used to foster reform and collective progress. Increased security and deployment of personnel has become a usual routine for Punjab, especially on Fridays and Sundays, for mosques and churches, respectively.
