LAHORE: Police have arrested a roadside fruit seller for allegedly beating two brothers to death with the help of his accomplices in the Raiwind area of Lahore.
A video of the tragic incident went viral on social media, showing two young men being brutally attacked by several people armed with cricket bats.
Police arrested the prime suspect, identified as Taimur, and registered a murder case.
According to police, the victims were real brothers — Wajid and Rashid — both in their twenties and residents of Kot Radha Kishan.
The incident took place on August 21, when Wajid and Rashid argued with the fruit vendor over change. They had purchased a dozen bananas for Rs130 and paid with a Rs5,000 note.

When the vendor said he had no change, the brothers asked him to reduce the number of bananas. The argument escalated and the fruit seller called in friends, who attacked the brothers with batons and a cricket bat.
Wajid died on the spot, while Rashid succumbed to head injuries two days later in hospital. Footage circulating online shows Rashid cradling his injured brother before being struck on the head with a bat.
Wajid, 22, leaves behind four children, while Rashid was unmarried. Thousands of mourners attended their funeral prayers in Kot Radha Kishan.
The victims’ family has demanded immediate arrests, while locals and netizens criticised bystanders for filming the assault instead of intervening. Some even called for legal action against those who recorded the incident.
Others urged that the case be handed over to Punjab’s Counter Crime Department (CCD), which is notorious for fake encounters and so-called “instant justice.” On Saturday, CCD allegedly shot an alleged child abuser in his private parts during a fake encounter in Kasur.
Police said the accused shot himself in his private parts while attempting to draw a pistol at the raiding police party.

This was the second such incident reported from Kasur in three weeks. In July, another man accused of harassing a minor in Kasur’s Shah Inayat Colony also ‘accidentally shot himself’ in the same manner.
