KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was compelled to cancel 27 flights on Monday due to a challenging fuel crisis.

This setback affected a range of flights, both domestic and international, as the airline struggled with fuel supply issues.

PIA flight operations set to normalise following fuel arrangements

The cancellations included seven flights departing from Karachi to destinations like Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, and Peshawar, along with six flights from Karachi to Multan, Dubai, and Islamabad. Additionally, four flights from Islamabad to destinations such as Dubai, Dammam, Medina, and Jeddah faced cancellations.

To address the fuel crisis, PIA announced its focus on maintaining operations on profitable routes, in a bid to ensure stability. It’s noteworthy that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) resumed a limited supply of fuel to PIA after the airline assured daily payments of Rs100 million to clear pending dues.

In the midst of these difficulties, overseas Pakistanis have encountered numerous inconveniences due to PIA flight cancellations. A particularly distressing issue pertains to the transportation of the deceased from abroad to Pakistan. In locations like Riyadh and other parts of Saudi Arabia, the bodies of deceased Pakistanis have been awaiting repatriation to their home country.
