Funeral of Mian Azhar offered in Lahore, Hammad attends


Hammad Azhar attends father's funeral

LAHORE: Funeral prayers of former Punjab governor and senior politician Mian Muhammad Azhar were offered in Lahore on Wednesday.

Mian Mohammad Azhar breathed his last on Tuesday night due to prolonged illness. He was 83 years old.

A large number of political leaders, public figures, and citizens from various walks of life attended the funeral. Among them was Mian Azhar’s son, PTI leader Hammad Azhar, who is currently an absconder in several legal cases.

Condolence visits continued at the residence of the late politician. Hammad Azhar received sympathies from numerous political, social, and media personalities.

Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb visited the residence and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. Punjab MPA Farrukh Javed Moon and PTI leader Shaukat Basra were also present to pay their respects.

Senior journalist Salman Ghani, MPA Hafiz Farhat, and Punjab Assembly Deputy Opposition Leader Moeen Qureshi also met with the family and offered their sympathies.

Earlier, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over Mian Azhar’s passing. In their joint statement, they extended heartfelt condolences to the family.

Nawaz Sharif recalled the close association between Mian Azhar’s late father and his own father, Mian Muhammad Sharif.

“We pray that Allah Almighty grants Mian Muhammad Azhar forgiveness and gives strength to his family to bear this irreparable loss,” said Nawaz Sharif.

Mian Muhammad Azhar was laid to rest at Ahmad Block graveyard, Garden Town.
