MARDAAN: At least six people were killed and two others injured when a gas cylinder explosion caused the roof of a two-story house to collapse in Mardan’s Aaram Colony on Saturday, officials confirmed.
Rescue 1122, firefighters, and medical teams rushed to the site immediately after the blast, which completely destroyed the residential building. Among the deceased was former senator Abbas Afridi, who succumbed to his injuries.

The victims were identified as Fawad (son of Amjad), Fawad’s wife, Rayan (son of Fawad), Aiza (daughter of Fawad), Shah Fahad (son of Amjad), and Tauba (daughter of Jawad). The injured—Ayesha (daughter of Fawad) and Dua (daughter of Jawad)—were shifted to a nearby hospital.
Over 100 Rescue 1122 personnel conducted a seven-hour operation to retrieve bodies and rescue survivors. Authorities suspect a gas leak caused the explosion, though investigations are ongoing.
Local officials have urged residents to ensure proper gas cylinder maintenance to prevent such tragedies.
