27 serious charges have been filed against Imran Khan, others

ISLAMABAD: In the GHQ attack case, 27 serious charges have been imposed on former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, and other accused.

According to the challan, the accused, under the leadership of former provincial law minister Raja Basharat, attacked the General Headquarters (GHQ), broke the gate, resisted military personnel, and vandalised sensitive military property. The attack involved the use of sticks, stones, and a petrol bomb, leading to fires and the destruction of property.

The challan further alleges that the windows of the GHQ building were smashed, the reputation of the Pakistan Army was besmirched, and the military personnel were attacked. Slogans were raised against the country and its armed forces, and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) building was also targeted.

The demonstration is described as part of an organised criminal conspiracy, with six accused arrested on the spot and more apprehended later.

The prosecution has requested harsh punishments for the accused. Three key witnesses, former MNA Sadaqat Abbasi, former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, and former MPA Umar Tanveer Butt, have defected and submitted petitions.

Meanwhile, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has adjourned the hearing of the case until October 30. Copies of the challan were distributed to 28 accused, including Sheikh Rasheed, Usman Dar, Amjad Niazi, and Raja Basharat, but the transcript for Imran Khan was delayed due to logistical issues, causing a postponement in the indictment.
