Gilgit home shooting leaves father, son dead

GILGIT: Two members of a family were killed, and three others were injured late Friday night when unknown assailants reportedly stormed their home in the Jutiyal area of Gilgit and opened fire on the family.
According to a Gilgit Police spokesperson, the incident occurred between the night of June 13 and 14 in the Haidari Mohalla area of Jutiyal. The gunfire resulted in the deaths of two individuals, Shireen Khan, aged 65, and his son Izhar Ali, aged 31.
Three others were injured in the attack, including Shamsul Qamar, wife of Shireen Khan, aged 60; Hina, wife of Izhar Ali, aged 27; and Baneen Zahra, daughter of Izhar Ali, aged 3.
The wounded were immediately rushed to the Provincial Headquarters (PHQ) Hospital Gilgit, where they were receiving medical treatment. One of the injured is said to be in serious condition.

Following the incident, an immediate response team was dispatched under the leadership of Additional SP Gilgit Nabi Khan and SDPO Danyore Circle, Gilgit, Ghulam Rasool PSP. The team cordoned off the crime scene and collected evidence. The police have detained three suspects for further investigation.
The spokesperson said that the police have identified the main suspect, and raids are currently underway at multiple locations to secure his arrest. The Gilgit District Police are fully committed to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation, utilising all available resources to ensure justice.
“The investigation is being carried out transparently, fairly, and on merit to bring all those involved in the incident to justice. The Gilgit District Police assure citizens that justice will be ensured under all circumstances. We appeal to the public to fully cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station immediately,” reads an update issued by the spokesperson.
According to sources, the identified main suspect is a constable at the Special Protection Unit of Gilgit-Baltistan Police and a relative of the victim’s family. He allegedly had a heated argument with the victims about two months ago, which is believed to have led to the tragic incident.
