Relief in sight: electricity prices likely to be reduced

ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices are likely to be reduced for consumers as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request with NEPRA in this regard.
The request has been submitted under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, proposing a reduction of Rs 2 per unit in electricity prices.
According to the request, a total of 7.81 billion electricity units were sold in January. Hydropower contributed 10.63 per cent, while local coal generated 15.56 per cent of the electricity.
Electricity production from imported coal stood at 8.53 per cent, while furnace oil contributed 1.33 per cent during the month. Power generation from RLNG was recorded at 18.92 per cent.

Last month, nuclear energy accounted for 26.61 per cent of electricity generation, while electricity imported from Iran made up 0.41 per cent. Wind energy contributed 2.67 per cent, and bagasse-generated power stood at 1.67 per cent. Meanwhile, solar energy accounted for 1.06 per cent of total electricity production in January.
NEPRA will hold a hearing on the matter on February 27.
