LAHORE: A prime suspect involved in the Greece boat capsize incident has been captured from Egypt with the help of Interpol.

In 2023, a boat carrying illegal immigrants sank around the same area of Greece, resulting in the death of 262 Pakistanis

In a major breakthrough, FIA has arrested human trafficker Imran alias Tony, the most-wanted suspect listed in the Red Book, from Egypt.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the Gujranwala zone, with the help of Interpol, captured Tony, who was allegedly involved in several deadly boat accidents and was a key suspect in the 2023 Greece boat capsize tragedy.

Tony, said to be part of an international smuggling network, has now been brought back to Pakistan after legal procedures and handed over to FIA Gujranwala.

Interpol had issued a red warrant at the request of FIA Gujranwala zone. Tony had been operating from Libya since 2012 and was reportedly running a network of safe houses facilitating illegal immigration.

He was involved in sending Pakistanis to Europe via the sea route from Libya. He allegedly extorted millions from citizens under the promise of illegal immigration.

Multiple FIRs had already been registered against him. FIA has now launched a probe and is conducting raids to arrest other members of his network.
