ISLAMABAD: An inquiry into a tragic boat incident in Greece has held Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s border officials responsible for the deaths of more than three hundred Pakistani nationals, revealing their alleged involvement in sending Pakistanis abroad illegally and human smuggling along the border.

The report compiled by an inquiry team headed by Ahsan Sadiq has called for rigorous action against those found responsible.

The report has highlighted money laundering and human smuggling with the connivance of the FIA officials and other security agencies. It has suggested that a thorough investigation should be conducted against the officials involved in human smuggling.

The report revealed that an extensive network of unauthorised cross-border movement was facilitated by the FIA officials stationed in Peshawar, Chaman, Torkham, and other border regions.

The report has been presented to the Prime Minister Office, urging swift action against the FIA officials involved in the human smuggling.

The report has called for a review of the conduct of FIA officials, and the FIA Director-General has been urged to ensure full compliance with recommendations of the report.

The report has also called for an audit of the assets owned by FIA officials over the past five years.

Former prime minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken note of the tragic incident involving Pakistani nationals in the Greek boat tragedy and ordered an inquiry.
