Hammad Azhar, Sanam Javed to remain ‘disqualified’

Appellate bench

LAHORE: The Appellate Tribunals of the Lahore High Court (LHC), upheld the decision of the returning officers (ROs) in rejecting nomination papers of two candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

PTI’s Former Federal minister Hamad Azhar had appealed against the rejection of his nomination papers from NA 129. Today, the Appellate Tribunal upheld the decision of the RO to dismiss his nomination papers. The appeal was presided over by Appellate Tribunal Judge Justice Tariq Nadeem, who firmly rejected Azhar’s plea.

Similarly, the Tribunal upheld the RO’s decision in the case of Sanam Javed Khan, who had submitted nomination papers for NA 119, 120, and PP 150. Justice Tariq Nadeem delivered the verdict on Sanam’s appeal, affirming the rejection of her nomination papers.

The crux of the matter revolved around discrepancies in the nomination papers. Sanam had signed her papers on December 21, but an objection was raised before the RO on December 22, pointing out that she had shown a joint account in her nomination papers, contrary to the requirement which mandates a single account to be disclosed in the papers.

The Appellate Tribunals continues the meticulous scrutiny of nomination papers, ensuring compliance with the electoral regulations.
