Heavy rainfall predicted for Karachi from tomorrow

KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a statement indicating that Karachi will experience heavy rainfall from tomorrow (April 18).

Heavy rainfall is predicted in the western, northwestern, and southern regions of the city, including Surjani Town, Baldia, Liaquatabad, Orangi Town, Kiamari, DHA, Saddar, and Clifton.

“Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro and Sanghar from 17th (tonight) to 19th April (morning),” the PMD stated in a press release.

The current temperature is recorded at 33 degrees Celsius as the humidity level in the air is 80 percent and it may reach up to 60 percent by evening today.

The western winds system that passed through Balochistan will enter Karachi this evening.

The wind intensity has increased, and there is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds.

Besides Karachi the new round of rainfall will begin today in nearby areas of Sindh and Balochistan as well.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert, indicating the risk of flooding in rivers as the winds have entered Balochistan, resulting in rainfall in many areas including Gwadar.

Mid-week weather: Dry and partly cloudy, but with variations

Additionally, the Meteorological Department predicts rain in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sukkur, and Larkana on April 18th and 19th.

According to the Met Office, this weather system is more robust than the previous one, with a projected rainfall coverage of over 90 per cent in Balochistan. Southern areas may experience heavy rainfall, and there is also a possibility of hailstorms in Balochistan starting from the evening of April 17th.

The anticipated weather system is expected to have an impact on Sindh, affecting the region’s weather patterns and potentially bringing rainfall to various parts of the province.
