ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Tashakur (Thanksgiving Day) is being observed across Pakistan today to celebrate the victory of Marka-e-Haq and honour the country’s armed forces and resilient citizens.

The day began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers in mosques nationwide. A 31-gun salute echoed in Islamabad, while provincial capitals marked the occasion with 21-gun salutes.

Change of guard ceremonies took place at the mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and Allama Iqbal in Lahore.

Flag hoisting events were held in federal and provincial capitals. Floral wreaths were laid at Yadgaar-e-Shuhada to pay homage to the martyrs, while families of those who sacrificed their lives during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos will be visited to recognise their courage and commitment.

PRESIDENT, PM PAY TRIBUTE TO MARTYRS OF MARKA-E-HAQ

On Youm-e-Tashakur, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq, thanking Allah for Pakistan’s victory against Indian aggression.

President Zardari said Pakistan would never compromise on its sovereignty and hailed the success of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos as a proud moment.

PM Shehbaz praised the armed forces for their brave and professional response, calling it a golden chapter in military history. He said the victory reflects not just military strength but also Pakistan’s principled stance.

Last week, PM Shehbaz announced that Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq would be commemorated every year on 10 May to remember the successful repulsion of Indian aggression during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. He said the day would be observed with full national spirit to honour the armed forces’ professionalism and Pakistan’s unity.

He further declared that Friday, 16 May 2025, would be observed as Youm-e-Tashakur to thank Allah for the nation’s victories and to salute the military for their achievements on the defence front. Special prayers will be held across the country for continued peace, strength, and progress.
