How to cut down electricity bills?

ISLAMABAD: As electricity tariffs have risen in Pakistan, consumers are looking for ways to reduce their bills to save their hard-earned money.

Experts say that using LED bulbs, limiting the use of fans and air conditioners, keeping the fridge in a cool place, and switching off appliances and plugs when not in use can help lower the electricity consumption and costs.

They say that LED bulbs consume 75 per cent less energy than other lights and have a longer lifespan.

Experts advise consumers to replace their old bulbs with LED ones to save electricity.

Fans consume around 75 watts of electricity per hour on average, experts say. They suggest limiting the usage of fans and using natural ventilation whenever possible.

Experts say air conditioners are one of the most energy-intensive appliances.

They recommend increasing the AC temperature by one degree, which can save up to 6 per cent electricity. They also advise turning off the AC when not needed or using it intermittently.

Experts say that fridges should be kept at least 2 inches away from the wall and away from direct sunlight. This can improve their efficiency and reduce their power consumption.

They say that merely turning off devices like TVs is not enough and people should also switch off the connecting switches. This can prevent the devices from drawing standby power, which can add up to the bill.

Experts also warn that electricity rates are highest from 5pm to 11pm, so people should avoid using energy-intensive devices during this period.

They suggest using alternative sources of energy, such as solar panels or generators, if possible.

By following these measures, people can significantly reduce their power bills, experts say.
