KARACHI: The body of actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali is believed to be over six months old, according to the postmortem conducted at Jinnah Hospital and the police.
However, the exact cause of death could not be determined due to the body’s severe decomposition.
The remains were discovered on Tuesday night in a fourth-floor apartment of a residential building in Ittehad Commercial Area, Defence Phase 6, within the jurisdiction of Gizri Police Station.
Initially, Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, who performed the postmortem, estimated the death had occurred about a month ago based on the body’s condition.
According to the police, two mobile phones have been recovered which belong to Humaira. The phones have been sent to the forensic lab for data extraction. According to the call log retrieved from the phones her last call was made on October 2024.
Her last Facebook post was dated September 11, 2024, and the last Instagram update came on September 30. Neighbors confirmed they hadn’t seen her since September or October last year.
SSP West said evidence suggests she likely died in October 2024, possibly around the time she paid her last utility bills. Her electricity was disconnected later that month, likely due to non-payment.
Humaira Asghar’s father refuses to collect remains
According to the police, expired food items and rusted kitchen utensils support the claim that Humaira died in October 2024.
The presence of a vacant apartment on the same floor also delayed the discovery. Officials said the odor from a decomposing body usually fades after 10 to 15 days, making detection difficult.
POLICE REFUSE TO HAND HUMAIRA ASGHAR’S BODY TO BROTHER-IN-LAW
Police have refused to hand over the body of actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali to her brother-in-law, who claimed the body from a residential apartment in Defence Phase 6.
According to Express News, the man contacted Gizri Police, identified himself as the actress’s brother-in-law, and requested to take custody of the body.
However, police summoned him to the station and asked him to bring a blood relative of the deceased along.
Police stated that as per the law, only a blood relative can receive the body of the deceased.
