Human smugglers involved in visa fraud arrested in Lahore

LAHORE: Two human smugglers involved in visa fraud have been arrested from Lahore, a spokesperson from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said on Sunday.

The accused were arrested in raids from Islamabad and Lahore, the FIA spokesperson said, adding that the accused extorted Rs 1.68 million from a citizen by promising him a job in Lithuania.

The second accused extorted Rs 700,000 from a citizen on the pretext of sending him to the US, the FIA spokesperson said.

Both the accused have been arrested and an investigation has been launched, he added.

Last month, the FIA Lahore Zone had arrested two other suspects allegedly involved in human smuggling and visa fraud.

According to the FIA, the suspects had taken Rs 950,000 from a citizen by promising to send him to Dubai, but disappeared after failing to fulfil the commitment.

FIA said that both men had been wanted since 2018 and had been hiding for years to avoid arrest.
