Human smuggling: Five arrested in raids across the country

ISLAMABAD: On the directives of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) in their continuous crackdown against human smuggling across Pakistan has arrested five alleged smugglers.

FIA anti-human trafficking circle Karachi has arrested three suspects belonging to an organised human trafficking network.

The suspects were arrested from a restaurant on Shahrah-e-Faisal, according to FIA spokesperson.

The arrested individuals were found involved in illegal border crossings using “Dunki” methods.

They charged millions of rupees for facilitating illegal employment in Iraq and Europe, as per the spokesperson.

Four citizens aspiring to go abroad were also detained along with the suspects.

The citizens, aiming to travel abroad, belong to Sahiwal and Burewala.

In another incident, the FIA Gujranwala team raided Muzaffargarh and arrested a human trafficker involved in the Morocco boat incident.

The arrested suspect, Adeel Ahmed, was found linked to the Morocco boat tragedy, according to the FIA Director Abdul Qadir Qamar.

The suspect, along with accomplices, had arranged to send the victim, Rehan Aslam, to Spain for Rs. 4 million.

The victim’s family transferred the payment to the suspect’s bank account, the director stated.

The suspect initially sent the victim from Pakistan to Dubai, then to Ethiopia and Senegal, and later to Mauritania.

The suspect attempted to smuggle the victim to Spain via a boat, as per the FIA director.

Rehan Aslam, a resident of Gujrat, lost his life in the boat accident, the director confirmed.

A case has been registered against the suspect, and investigations have begun. Raids are underway to arrest other gang members, according to Abdul Qadir Qamar.
