IESCO springs into action against defaulters

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has started action against defaulters of electricity, including both private entities and government departments.

The IESCO headquarters has furnished lists of defaulters to all field formations. These defaulters span a wide range of entities, from federal institutions in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with outstanding amounts totaling Rs70 billion, to provincial entities where IESCO has identified Rs5 billion in dues.

Among the notable defaulters, Azad Jammu and Kashmir shoulders the highest burden with an outstanding amount of Rs60 billion.

The federal development agency CDA owes Rs3 billion to IESCO.

Similarly, the Chaklala Cantonment Board has an outstanding balance of Rs1.15 billion, while the Pak Secretariat has defaulted on Rs87 crore. Parliament Lodges owes Rs12 crore. Federal hospitals have unpaid dues totaling Rs37 crore, while federal police accounting for Rs17 crore in outstanding amount.

Moreover, Wapda’s outstanding dues amount to Rs17 crore, and Punjab jails have an unpaid balance of Rs3 crore.

Similarly, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board owes Rs25 crore and PWD has defaulted on Rs25 crore as well.

IESCO has initiated these actions to recover outstanding dues from these entities and to ensure the efficient management of electricity supply.
