Punjab Safe City cameras

LAHORE: Usman Anwar, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, recently chaired a joint meeting at the Central Police Office to discuss the progress of ongoing technological initiatives.

The meeting was attended by experts from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

During the meeting, Anwar and the experts reviewed the development of the vehicle registration plates and facial recognition software, which are being completed in collaboration with the PSCA and the PITB.

The discussion covered the testing of the automatic registration number plate recognition (ANPR) and facial recognition software, focusing on the results obtained thus far.

Additionally, the meeting assessed the progress of other modern policing systems, including video surveillance and event management.

Anwar directed the PITB to expedite the finalisation of the software and to enhance its accuracy. He stressed the importance of using the latest cameras to ensure optimal results for both the ANPR and facial recognition systems.

The IG highlighted that, once operational, the system’s automatic alerts for stolen vehicles will enable a swift police response, facilitating the quick recovery of stolen assets.

Furthermore, Anwar noted that the implementation of these advanced technologies would not only aid in crime control but also improve the overall process of public service delivery.

He stressed that these modern policing tools are essential for creating safer cities and fostering greater public trust in law enforcement.

The meeting concluded with a call for continued collaboration between the PSCA and the PITB, ensuring that the new systems are integrated effectively into Punjab’s policing operations.
