ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a stay order on the auction of sports grounds in the federal capital, including cricket, football and padel grounds.

Justice Raja Inam Amin Minhas issued the order in response to a petition filed by a citizen challenging the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) decision to auction public playgrounds. The court has also issued notices to the CDA and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), seeking their replies.

The petitioner argued that the playgrounds are meant for public use and cannot be auctioned. The CDA had earlier published an advertisement to auction the grounds for Rs 50.5 million.

The stay comes amid a broader urban development initiative led by CDA Chairman and Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The CDA recently launched several projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, recreational spaces, and public services in the city.

Among the ongoing initiatives is a public auction of five padel courts at various locations across Islamabad. This auction was projected to generate Rs 76 million in monthly revenue.
