ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Amir Farooq has issued directives for the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman to Adiala Jail.
During the hearing regarding the transfer case of the PTI chairman, Justice Farooq emphasized that under-trial prisoners from Islamabad are typically housed in Adiala Jail. He explained that when the initial punishment was announced, the duration of the sentence had not yet been determined, which led to the accused being held at Attock.

“Now that the sentence has been suspended, the PTI chairman is considered an under-trial prisoner,” noted the IHC Chief Justice. He further questioned whether, in the future, the accused might be sent to Rahim Yar Khan for trial, highlighting the potential logistical challenges.
In response, the Additional Attorney General explained that the order to detain the accused in the cipher case at Attock jail had been issued from Attock itself. Justice Farooq clarified that the order originated from Attock because that was where the prisoner had been held.
The court, in line with legal provisions, reiterated that under-trial prisoners from Islamabad should be accommodated at Adiala Jail and subsequently issued orders for the transfer of the PTI chairman to Adiala.
