PTI boycotts Senate leadership elections, challenges in court

PTI declared the elections for the seats of chairman and deputy chairman Senate as ‘unconstitutional’.

Five PTI senators filed a constitutional petition in the IHC, seeking to halt the impending election process.

However, the legal challenge faced an initial obstacle as the Registrar Office of the IHC raised objections to PTI’s petition. The objection cited the jurisdictional authority of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) regarding matters concerning the Senate seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The case of contentious reserved seats is already in-progress at the PHC.

The IHC said that this case should also be filed with the PHC.
