ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has turned down the plea of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, who sought the withdrawal of a petition challenging his disqualification in the Toshakhana reference.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq announced the verdict, which was reserved on September 13 after considering arguments from all involved parties.
Former chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faced disqualification on October 21, 2022, in a consensus verdict by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The decision, grounded in Article 63(1)(p), declared Khan as no longer a member of the National Assembly. The disqualification was attributed to “false statements and incorrect declarations” made by Imran Khan.
