IHC to give ‘institutional response’ to any external interference

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has decided to give an ‘institutional response’ to any external interference in judicial matters.

This was agreed upon during the full court session of the Islamabad High Court, chaired by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. The full court session was attended by Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Tariq Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Ejaz Isa, Arbab Tahir, and Saman Rafat Imtiaz. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, who did not sign the letter, also participated in the meeting.

According to sources, the full court considered proposals to stop the interference of intelligence agencies in judicial matters.

According to the sources, all judges have unanimously decided to respond to external interference in judicial matters.

Sources said that the proposals discussed in the full court session will be drafted and they will be sent the unanimous proposals to the Supreme Court for further consideration.

According to sources, there was no disagreement on the proposals in the full court session, and the draft of the proposals will be sent to the Supreme Court before the set date.

It is worth remembering that on March 26, six judges of the Islamabad High Court had written a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council, accusing intelligence agencies of intervening in the judiciary, and the judges had sought guidance from the Supreme Judicial Council on the matter.

On this issue, the prime minister had initially formed an inquiry commission with the consultation of the chief justice, but former chief justice Tassaduq Jillani had refused to lead the commission. Later, however, the chief justice took suo motu notice and set the case for hearing.

The Supreme Court had sought proposals on the matter of the letter from the high court judges.
