Imaan Mazari re-arrested after bail was granted

ISLAMABAD: Activist lawyer Imaan Mazari-Hazir has once again been taken into custody.

The influential human rights lawyer and activist, who is also the daughter of PTI leader Shirin Mazari, was initially apprehended at her home on August 20 following alleged clashes with law enforcement personnel during a protest.

Her arrest, alongside that of Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir on the same charges, sparked widespread outrage and calls for her release.

Mazari-Hazir, who was granted bail and released from Adiala Jail on August 22, has now been re-arrested and placed in the same jail. The reason for the re-arrest is as yet unknown.

The re-arrest comes hours after it was that an Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted post-arrest bail to Mazari and Wazir in a sedition case stemming from a controversial speech against state institutions.

ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain had presided over the proceedings and approved the bail for Imaan and Wazir. The bail had been granted against a surety bond of Rs30,000 each.
