A well-known lawyer and political activist, Iman Mazari was detained along with her husband for allegedly attempting to reopen a closed road during the passage of the England cricket team.

According to reports, the couple then had a confrontation with the law enforcers, ultimately leading to their arrest. The incident occurred during a heightened security protocol in Islamabad.

The Islamabad High Court intervened by suspending the decision regarding the physical remand of Iman Mazari and her husband.

Initially, the anti-terrorism court granted a three-day physical remand, allowing the law enforcement authorities to detain them for further ‘investigation’.

However, the Islamabad High Court suspended the remand. As per police sources, a case was file against the couple at the Aabpara police station, citing charges of interference in government operations and other related offenses.

The legal framework surrounding such cases has often raised concerns about the potential misuse of anti-terrorism laws to suppress dissent and curtail civil rights.
