Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been indicted in Toshakhana II case.

In today’s proceedings in the special central court, both the former premier and the former first lady denied the charges. Both the accused, were produced in the court today.

Special Court Judge Shahrukh Arjumand held the hearing in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi.

The initial investigation into the Toshakhana II case was conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

SECOND ROUND OF TOSHAKHANA CONVICTIONS

The proceedings of the Toshakhana case were carried out in the past as well. However, after the NAB amendments were passed in the national assembly, the case was transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

After the initial investigation in September 2024, the challan was submitted to the court. In the hearings carried out by the special court, Bushra Bibi failed to appear in the court, which delayed the indictment.

BAIL RESCINDED

During today’s proceedings the FIA also requested the court to rescind the bail of Bushra Bibi on account of her failure to appear in the court during previous hearings. She was granted bail on October 23 against a surety bond of Rs1 million.

Imran Khan is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, and facing multiple charges of corruption, foreign funding, vandalism and violent protests. Earlier, the court also granted bail to Imran Khan in Toshakhana II case but the former premier remains behind bars for multiple other charges.

NEW TOSHAKHANA CASE

The case stems from allegations that state gifts were misappropriated by Imran Khan and his wife. On September 12, 2024, the FIA had formed a three-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the matter after the Supreme Court’s verdict on NAB amendments resulted in the transfer of the Toshakhana 2 reference from NAB to the FIA.

Previously, the court had ordered the transfer of the reference record to a special central judge. In July, NAB had arrested Khan and his wife in a separate Toshakhana reference, accusing them of unlawfully retaining and selling 10 high-value gifts, including seven luxury watches.

This case marks a continuation of legal battles surrounding the alleged misuse of Toshakhana assets, placing Khan and his family under significant judicial scrutiny.
