Imran Khan convicted in May 9 cases

May 9 cases

LAHORE: The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in cases related to the May 9 riots and denied his bail in eight separate cases.

The court’s six-page decision, written by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul, presented substantial evidence, including audio and visual records, allegedly showing Khan inciting violence.

The judgment is based on witness testimonies who claimed that Khan had planned disruptions from Zaman Park in anticipation of his arrest.

Journalist Matiullah Jan granted bail

The prosecution argued that Khan orchestrated attacks on military and government installations by instructing party leaders and supporters.

Testimonies of undercover police operatives, posing as PTI members, who reportedly overheard conversations detailing the conspiracy, which were key to the case.

Imran Khan’s legal team contended that he was in custody during the incidents and sought a bail plea.

However, the court dismissed this argument, emphasizing the serious nature of the charges. It highlighted that the violence on May 11 was directly linked to Khan’s influence over his supporters, who allegedly acted upon his instructions.
