Imran Khan files petition in IHC to avoid transfer to military custody

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking protection from being handed over to military custody for trials related to the May 9 incidents.
A petition was filed through lawyer Aziz Karamat Bhandari, naming the Secretary of Law, Secretary of Interior, and the Federal Government as respondents in the case.
The petition urged IHC to assure that Imran Khan’s custody was not given to the military.
Additionally, the IG of Islamabad, IG Punjab, DG FIA, and the IG of Prisons have also been made parties in the petition.

Khan is currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail under several different cases including corruption and the May 9 riots.
The Punjab government had recently said currently no proposal is under consideration to send Imran Khan’s case to a military court.
“No summary regarding sending former prime minister Imran Khan’s cases to military courts has come to the provincial cabinet or the law department as yet. No such proposal is under consideration at the moment,” Punjab Law Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmad Barth told a presser
