Imran Khan’s family not running for elections; says sister Aleema

Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan, has affirmed that neither herself nor Imran Khan’s other sisters, will be vying in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8 next year. She added that Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi will not be taking part in the elections either, The News reported.

In a conversation with reporters outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday, Aleema Khan was categorically questioned about whether she will be a candidate in the upcoming general elections. Responding to another inquiry, she asserted, “Even if Imran Khan requests, I will not participate in the election.”

Addressing the possibility of any other sister or Bushra Bibi entering the electoral fray, Aleema clarified, “None of us is contesting elections. We only appear for matters related to the PTI founder.” She argued that Imran Khan couldn’t be compared to Bhutto, since there was no “young generation like today’s” back in that time.

Accusing Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Aleema alleged that he had deployed “two umpires”, preventing players from entering the field. According to her, evidence of this can be seen when individuals attempt to submit nomination papers, only to have them confiscated. She dismissed the corruption case as a farce, expressing concern that a death sentence might be hastily pronounced by December 30.

“Our reliance for justice is on Allah, and justice should also be anticipated from the Supreme Court. However, the ongoing events are apparent to everyone. We are no longer disillusioned with the Supreme Court. If justice is not obtained there, we will certainly seek it from Allah,” she declared.
