ISLAMABAD: In preparation for Independence Day, the capital police have implemented an extensive security and traffic management plan to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens.
In Rawalpindi, security has been heightened to ‘high alert,’ with the deployment of 5,300 police personnel.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad, over 3,000 police officers have been assigned to maintain law and order, supported by more than 500 Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) personnel tasked with managing traffic flow and addressing violations such as one-wheeling, racing, and noisy modifications of motorcycles.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Ali Raza has assured the public of the police force’s commitment to upholding high standards of safety and order during this significant national event.
Senior officers will be on the ground, overseeing both law enforcement and traffic management. Special checkpoints will be set up, and enhanced security will be maintained at key locations to prevent any disruptions.
Proactive security measures include mobile patrols by specialized units such as the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Dolphin Force, as well as dedicated teams patrolling parks and public spaces to ensure a secure environment for families.
DIG Raza emphasized that any attempts to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere would be met with strict action. “We will not tolerate any breaches of law and order. Swift and effective measures will be taken against offenders,” he stated.
Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activity to the nearest station, emergency helpline, or via the ICT-15 app.
The ITP has also devised a detailed traffic plan for the day. This includes the deployment of 585 officers, including one SP, four DSPs, and 28 inspectors. Stern measures will be enforced against motorcyclists involved in traffic violations, with over 55 checkpoints established on major roads.
Parents are urged to prevent their children from engaging in one-wheeling. Violators may face legal action, and motorcycles involved in such activities could be impounded. Additionally, Radio FM 92.4 will provide real-time updates on traffic conditions throughout the day.
