Independence Day weather

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a continuation of hot and humid conditions across most plains of the country on Independence Day (Thursday), with rain and thundershowers expected in several northern and upper regions.

Going region by region, PMD said that Islamabad and its surrounding areas are likely to get partly cloudy and humid conditions. However, later in the day, there might be rain accompanied by gusty winds and thundershowers, with chances of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

Most districts in Punjab are expected to experience hot and humid weather. However, areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Khushab, DG Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur may see partly cloudy conditions, along with strong winds and thundershowers.

Likewise, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hot and humid weather is likely to persist in the plains. However, rain, strong winds, and thundershowers are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kurram, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, and Waziristan. Heavy rainfall is also possible in upper parts of the province.

Hot and humid weather will continue in most parts of Sindh but rain is expected in Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Dadu, Tharparkar, Thatta, and Karachi, where partly cloudy skies may also be observed.

Balochistan will get similar conditions as well for most districts. However, areas such as Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, and Lasbela may experience rain and partly cloudy skies.

In Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, partly cloudy conditions are likely with possible rain, strong winds, and thundershowers at a few locations. Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places, particularly in Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

The PMD advises residents in rain-prone regions to stay alert to changing weather conditions, especially in areas with potential for heavy rainfall and localised flooding.
