India’s diplomat expelled as ‘Persona Non Grata’

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has declared a staff member of the High Commission of India, as persona non grata for engaging in activities “inconsistent with his privileged status.” Last week as well, another diplomat working for the India High Commission was asked to leave. The official concerned has been directed to leave Pakistan within 24 hours, according to a Foreign Office press release issued late Wednesday night.

According to APP, the Indian Chargé d’Affaires was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey this decision.

It was reiterated that none of the diplomats or staff members of the Indian High Commission should misuse their privileges and status in any manner.

These decisions come during a tense time for both countries which came to a brink of a war less than two-weeks ago when India launched Operation Sindoor breaching Pakistan’s sovereignty while Pakistan showed restraint, launching attacks much later after India attempted to attack military infrastructure. The ceasefire brokered by the US on May 10 led forces to stop the strikes.
