Intense thunderstorm hits twin cities

Thunderstorm in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: An intense thunderstorm has struck Rawalpindi and Islamabad, leading to substantial rainfall in major areas of the twin cities. Several areas have also reported the occurrence of hail.

The heavy downpour has led to the accumulation of rainwater in the roads and streets of the twin cities. Furthermore, low-lying areas of Rawalpindi have been inundated due to excessive rain.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Water And Sanitation Agency (WASA) said that the twin cities received 30mm of rainfall on Friday morning. He further mentioned that a WASA team has been dispatched to the low-lying regions of Rawalpindi to prevent flooding.

Earlier in Thursday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had issued a weather forecast predicting the likelihood of rain, strong winds, and thundershowers in the upper regions of Pakistan over the course of the next 24 hours.

In the capital city, Islamabad, the forecast had indicated partly cloudy weather with the potential for rain, wind, and thundershowers.
