KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi, Sohail Rajput, has taken a significant step by involving the employees of Intermediate board Karachi in the transportation of examination papers.
This decision, outlined in a recent circular, excludes the reliance on college teachers for this crucial task.
The ongoing Inter Year II Supplementary Examinations in Karachi, which commenced on January 15, will now witness the participation of CCOs (Centre Control Officers/College Teachers) alongside lower-grade staff from the Higher Secondary Education Board Karachi.
These individuals, stationed at the Board of Education examination centres, will oversee the entire process, from the distribution of examination papers to their return to the board.
This move is aimed at ensuring the confidentiality of examination papers, following the recommendation of Haroon Rasheed, the acting secretary of the Higher Secondary Education Board in Karachi.
The proposal was discussed and approved in a meeting of inter-board officers on January 10, chaired by Commissioner Karachi.
During the examinations, CCOs will not only be present in the exam room during the distribution of papers but will also operate under the strict supervision of board employees.
This marks a notable departure from the board’s recent history, as it entrusts the supervision of CCOs to board employees for the first time.
It is essential to mention that, according to a notification from the Sindh government, the Commissioner Karachi currently holds the position of the Chairman of Interboard Karachi.
According to Express News, the decision to send two employees together received formal approval from Commissioner Karachi, albeit subject to established rules.
Contrary to this approval, sources indicate a lack of clarity within the board rules regarding such a provision. With 47 examination centres established for the ongoing examinations, a total of 94 board employees were initially slated to be involved in the process.
This involves one board employee accompanying each CCO vehicle, while 47 employees will serve as vigilance at the respective examination centres.
These examinations, with a participant count exceeding 24,500 students, are scheduled to continue until February 6. The afternoon sessions will include students from various categories, such as “Assistant, Senior Clerk, Junior Clerk, Store Keeper Binder, and Data Entry Operator.”
This comprehensive approach reflects a commitment to upholding the integrity and security of the examination process.
