Intermediate annual exams 2025 postponed

inter exams postponed

KARACHI: The annual intermediate exams 2025 in both Karachi and Balochistan have been postponed, adding to students’ uncertainty.

In Balochistan, the intermediate exams were set to begin today (April 22) with over 100,000 students expected to appear. However, Chairman Balochistan Board Muhammad Ishaq announced a three-week delay.

Board officials stated that the decision was made in light of unforeseen administrative reasons, although they did not provide further details.

A new date sheet is expected soon.

According to sources, the boycott by the Professors and Lecturers Association prompted the postponement.

Karachi Board delays exams

A day earlier, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) also pushed the exams forward by nine days, despite extreme heatwave warnings.

The first phase of exams for pre-engineering, pre-medical, and science general groups (Part I & II) was scheduled for April 28. As per board sources, exams will now begin on or after May 6. This delay will also affect the second phase, which includes commerce and arts groups.

Board officials cited several reasons, including a shortage of exam centres, ongoing changes in first-year results due to grace marks, and the absence of a permanent chairman at BIEK.

The entire schedule disruption traces back to the matric exams, which were originally set for March 15 but were postponed after private school associations raised concerns about exams during Ramazan. The Steering Committee later rescheduled them to April 8.

With matric exams ending on May 2, inter exam centres will only become available afterward. Reports suggest that intermediate exams in Karachi will begin on or after May 6.
