LAHORE: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), in celebration of International Forest Day, has begun distributing saplings free of charge to the public.
This initiative comes in light of the PHA’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon levels in the provincial metropolis.
Last year alone, the PHA planted over a million saplings across Lahore, underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability. According to a spokesperson, multiple distribution points will be established throughout the city, offering individuals the opportunity to acquire saplings at no cost.
In a recent meeting chaired by Director General Muhammad Tahir Wattoo, participants pledged to transform Lahore into one of the world’s greenest cities.
This commitment includes supporting the Green Future plantation drive initiated by the Punjab Chief Minister, with the aim of fostering a greener and healthier environment.
In addition to tree planting efforts, the PHA has been actively enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the cityscape.
Colorful light structures have been installed along various thoroughfares in central Lahore, adding vibrancy to the urban landscape.
Furthermore, the authority has adorned the canal with decorative lights ahead of the annual Canal Mela, organised by the provincial government.
This festival will see sections of the canal, from The Mall underpass to the Jail Road underpass, illuminated with vibrant light structures and cultural displays, showcasing the rich diversity of Pakistan.
