International media confirms Pakistan’s claim of downing Rafale jets

The long-standing tension between India and Pakistan has dangerously escalated into open armed conflict, with the latest developments indicating a sharp intensification that threatens regional stability.

In an overnight operation, between Tuesday and Wednesday, Indian Air Force (IAF) jets reportedly struck several locations inside Pakistan, including Bahawalpur and Muridke, escalating the hostilities, and prompting a forceful response from Pakistan.

In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft — the French-made multirole fighters recently inducted into the IAF’s fleet. The Indian government has not officially confirmed any aircraft losses and has so far refrained from commenting on Pakistan’s claims. News reports by the Indian media called the debri of aircraft to have been caused by “unknown causes”.

However, CNN has reported new details that may support Pakistan’s assertions. Quoting a high-ranking French intelligence official, the network said, “Pakistan downed one Rafale fighter jet operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF), in what would mark the first time that one of the sophisticated French-made warplanes has been lost in combat.”
