Internet services restored to ‘normal’, claims PTA

Internet speed returned to normal PTA

ISLAMABAD: Internet services in the country have been restored to ‘normal’ after the repair of faults in the SMW4 submarine cable, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced.

According to a PTA spokesperson, faults were identified in the SMW4 cable in June and the AAE-1 cable in August. The restoration of both cables has eliminated a shortfall of 1750 Gbps, due to which the internet services and speed have been restored fully, the PTA said.

The restoration removed the 1750 gbps shortfall. This follows the addition of the Pace cable in 2023, which enhanced capacity, the spokesperson said.

Further expansions are planned, with three new cables from Transworld International (2) and PTCL (1) set to join the system within the next two years.

This expansion aims to significantly improve internet infrastructure and speed across the country, according to the spokesperson.

Pakistan has been suffering from slow internet for months now and several social media outages have also been witnessed, frustrating the masses.
