Int’l Day for elimination of violence against women being observed today

ISLAMABAD: The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is being observed today not only in Pakistan but the entire world.
Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world.
RIGHTS OF WOMEN TO BE PROTECTED, PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
President Asif Ali Zardari in his message on the day has reaffirmed that they were united in solidarity with women and girls across the world who endured violence in many forms.
“This day serves as a reminder to intensify our efforts to end violence against women and girls,” he said in his message.
On this day, he reaffirmed commitment to protect the rights of women, provide them with a safe and enabling environment, and reduce gender-based violence.
“We need to empower women by providing them education, focusing on their skill-building and ensuring their financial independence. It is also essential to raise awareness about women’s rights and eliminate violence against them,” he stressed.
“This year’s theme “Every 10 Minutes, a Woman is Killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women” calls upon us to increase investments in prevention strategies, survivor support, and systemic reforms to address this grave violation of human rights”, President House Media Wing, in a press release, quoted the president as saying.
The president said Pakistan stood committed to this cause, aligning its national efforts with this global call to action.
WOMEN ARE MY RED LINE, SAYS CM PUNJAB
On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Chief Minister Punjab and Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of women’s safety and dignity.
Maryam Nawaz declared, “Women are my red line. Violence or injustice against them will not be tolerated.” She highlighted that respecting women is deeply rooted in societal traditions and religious values.
Chief Minister Punjab underscored Islam’s clear commands to ensure women’s rights, adding that those who commit violence against women are criminals. He assured that protecting women remains the Punjab government’s top priority.
Maryam Nawaz also noted key achievements, including the establishment of the province’s first Virtual Women Police Station and the full activation of the Police Women Helpline. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding women’s rights and ensuring their protection.
These initiatives reflect Punjab’s dedication to creating a safer environment for women and addressing issues of violence and inequality.
